EASTS 30th Anniversary Commemorative Event Program

10:30-12:30 EASTS and EASTS-Japan Joint Seminar
Support: Japan Transport and Tourism Research Institute (JTTRI)
(The seminar will be conducted entirely in English, but simultaneous interpretation into Japanese will be provided.)

“Recent Disaster Responses and Lessons Learned in EASTS Member Countries and Regions”
Eastern Asia, which includes the constituent regions for the EASTS, is one of the regions most affected by various natural disasters such as earthquakes, droughts, floods, and typhoons. In recent natural disasters, transportation infrastructures and various urban facilities have been severely damaged. In this context, building disaster resilience is a central challenge for achieving the SDGs. However, the impacts of such natural disasters on vulnerable groups such as low-income people, women, the elderly and children are extremely severe and make it difficult for them to rebuild their lives. This seminar aims to share information on the response efforts and lessons learned from natural disasters in Taiwan, the Philippines, and Japan, and to have a comprehensive discussion on how to rebuild livelihoods, especially for the socially vulnerable groups, mainly in the Asian context.
