ABOUT THE SOCIETY
EASTS was founded in November 1994 as a result of the meeting among the transport experts coming from 13 countries/regions in eastern Asia. The significant meeting of experts happened in Kawana in Izu, Shizuoka Prefecture in Japan.
The member countries/regions of the society are Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and New Zealand. The 1st Conference was held in Shangri-La EDSA Plaza Hotel in Metro Manila, Philippines on September 28-30, 1995 where 89 reviewed papers were presented and 3 volumes of journal published and the following 2nd Conference was held in Sheraton Walker-Hill Hotel in Seoul, Korea on October 29-31, 1997 where there was an overwhelming response to the call for papers. In the Seoul Conference, a total of 154 reviewed papers and 25 non-reviewed papers were presented and 6 volumes of journal and 1 volume of proceedings were published. The 4th conference was held in Hanoi, Vietnam in 2001 and was attended by 485 participants. There were 60 technical sessions and 245 research papers presented. Six (6) volumes of Journals and three (3) volumes of Proceedings were published. The 5th conference was held in Fukuoka, Japan and attracted 419 participants. A total of 396 technical papers were presented. Unlike the previous conferences wherein the Journals and Proceedings are separately published in a book type, the conference in Fukuoka published it in CD-ROM. The 6th conference is scheduled in 2005 and to be held in Bangkok, Thailand. The Thai Society of Transportation and Traffic Studies will host the event. |
